Kendrick by Peter Presley

Kendrick is the second book in the Chicago Bad Boy series but it can be read as a stand alone.

Kendrick has been in trouble with the law since he was young. He got in with a gang when he was just a young teenager and began stealing to make a living. His mother always prayed that he would be able to turn  his life around, especially after he was arrested and sent to juvie, but Kendrick didn't learn his lesson there. When he got out of juvie he was arrested again shortly after and, since he was now eighteen, he was sent to prison where he ended up in solitary confinement. While in solitary confinement he found a Bible, began reading it, and decided that when he got out of jail he would make a life for himself that no longer involved crime.

When Kendrick gets out of jail he moves in with his mother and starts looking for a job, but with his criminal record he finds it hard to get a job. He ends up at the local car wash where he meets Anita Jackson. She owns the car wash and decides to give him a chance. A big part of that reason is because she finds Kendrick so attractive. Kendrick is attracted to her too so he decides to ask her out and the two hit it off. Anita makes it clear she will not tolerate it if Kendrick goes back to his former life of crime either at the job or in their relationship. Kendrick agrees but as money gets tighter and tighter for him the temptation gets harder to resist.

Will Kendrick be able to resist the temptation of easy money that a life of crime gives so that he can stay clean and remain with Anita or will the temptation prove too great to resist? Find out in this steamy romance.

I give this book 4 out of 5 stars.
