Champagne Kisses

frontonly

Cover Design: Kiley Murphy

Release Date: December 8, 2016

Synopsis

A prequel to the LoveStruck series, Champagne Kisses begins with best friends, Cooper Sterling and Briley Sheffield, in college.

~Briley~

This rumor being spread across campus is the worst thing that’s ever happened to me, and all because I didn’t want to be in their stupid sorority. The only thing that got me through exams was the promise of a relaxing break, the normalcy of holiday traditions, and ringing in a New Year with my best friend, Coop. But he had to go and screw that up. Or maybe I did.

~Cooper~

A sorority would’ve been good for B, but she’s her own worst enemy, making up stories that dig craters in her already bumpy world. The rumor wasn’t life changing, it was mild really. But it hurt her and she acted on it. Did I enjoy the actions she took? Hell, yes. I’ve loved Briley most of my life, so when she got drunk on lemonade punch and threw herself at me, what could I do? The right thing? Yeah, maybe. But c’mon, it’s Briley. My Briley.

Denied by Hazel Hunter

This is the fourth installment in the Forever Faire series.
When we last left Kayla she and the rest of the Forever Faire were fleeing to Florida after being attacked by the Blackstones. Kayla, still trying to see the best in her sister, runs back to get her before they miss the chance to get to the portal and flee to Florida. Her sister has other plans. She sends Kayla and Christine through another portal strait to Dirk and the other Blackstones in exchange for her freedom from Dirk. Kayla and Christine make a harrowing escape on one of the Blackstone’s’ motorcycles which is really a dragon. After making it through the portal to Florida Ryan, the leader of Forever Faire and Kayla’s boyfriend decides to lock her sister up in enchanted chains to keep her from hurting anyone else until they can decide what to do with her. While dealing with her sister’s betrayal Kayla is also learning how to tap into her Fae side and use her magic as well as trying to uncover the secrets about her true family. All is going well until Kayla’s sister escapes and is taken by Dirk Blackstone. The Blackstones again attack the Forever Faire and, much to the dismay of Ryan, Kayla and Christine leave during the attack to seek out Kayla’s sister and attempt to rescue her. Will Kayla be able to save her sister from the clutches of Dirk or will her sister even want to be saved?

I give this book 4 out of 5 stars. I love that it keeps you guessing and the action is balanced out with a suspenseful story. I can’t wait to see how it concludes in the next book.

Low Over High by J.A. DeRouen

This is the first part in a two part series.  I was drawn to the novel by the prologue. The main character, Marlow or Low for short, is simply done with love. She wants no part of it and seems like such a strong and opinioned character I was instantly drawn to her and wanted to know her story.
Marlow takes us back 8 years to her senior year in high school. She is from a small town in Texas where she feels like she never quite fits in even though she is really close to her family. When her estranged mother who is now an artist in New Orleans invites her to complete her senior year at the prestigious Orleans Academy she jumps at the chance.  When she arrives she makes an immediate connection to her roommates but has an awkward run in with Ever, one of guys at school who happens to be one of her new friend’s roommates. This starts an all-out feud between Ever and Marlow. The two finally are forced to make a truce when they end up working the same part time job after school but what starts as a tentative truce turns into something more for each of them. Marlow has committed to not getting involved with anyone since she is determined to focus on school and making her parents proud and Ever doesn’t let anyone too close because of his past but the two can’t fight the pull they have towards each other. Just when everything seems to be falling into place something terrible happens. One night changes everything and Ever and Marlow are left to deal with the consequences. Can they find the strength to move past it or will that one night determine their future together?

I give this book 4 out of 5 stars because it was a little slow getting into and there is a lot of teenage angst but once I got into it I was hooked. I will definitely be reading the sequel.

Do Anything by Wendy Owens

This is the fourth book in the Stubborn Love series but it can definitely be read as a standalone as I have not read the other books in the series and was able to follow the story extremely well.
In this story Annabelle thinks she has her whole life figured out. She has her dream job as an assistant editor at a publishing firm where she is paid to read amazing books and she is getting ready to marry her college sweetheart. All this comes crashing down when she walks in on him having sex with their neighbor from across the hall. After breaking up with him she decides that she needs some time to do some soul searching so she puts her condo up for sale and travels to England. Her goal is to visit all the places that inspired the great authors she admires and hopefully fulfill her lifelong dream of becoming an author herself. Things are going well until she arrives at an inn called the Three Horseshoes and she meets Holden, the owner of the inn. She and Holden have an immediate attraction but both of them have been hurt. Just when Annabelle is beginning to let her guard down her past comes back in a big way. Will Annabelle and Holden be able to get over the hurt they have both experienced in the past and learn to trust each other again? Will Annabelle ever be able to move on from her past and build a future? Find out in this soul searching romance.
I absolutely loved this book. I really identified with Annabelle in that she had a difficult relationship that she had to get over and be able to find herself again. I admire how she had the courage to travel to another country on her own with no plan other than that she wanted to find herself. This was a great romance but also a great book just with Annabelle’s adventures and how she was able to find her own happily ever after.
I give this book 5 stars.

Low Over High

Low Over High (The Over Duet #1)
Cover Design: DCP Designs
Release Date: November 14, 2016

Synopsis
I fancy myself a purveyor of truth, a sifter of lies, a cutter of bullshit. It’s not a gift, but rather, all skill, honed to a razor’s edge after one too many trips down the rabbit hole.

Some may dismiss my talent as misplaced and misguided cynicism, but they’d be wrong. Cliches about hope and faith in mankind are concocted unicorn farts, an effort to keep the dreamers dreaming. Experiences don’t lie—people do.

While I’m not proud of the circumstances that led me to this way of thinking, I respect the journey. The road to enlightenment can be dark and foreboding, but the destination makes it all worthwhile.

But funny thing about the past—it’s a defiant child refusing to stay in time out. No matter how deeply buried, it can always pop up when least expected, and sink its fucking claws into the flesh of your heart. No, not my heart—I no longer have one. I foolishly gave it away years ago, but I still feel the ripping in my chest as I fist the crumpled note left on my porch.

I’ve avoided this day, ran from it, for the past eight years.

And still we meet again.

But to truly understand … to feel my dread and fear my future as I do, it’s important to know what happened in my past.

Or who…

My name is Marlo Rivers, and this is my story of corrupted love.

Excerpt
Kissing Ever is like breaking the surface of the ocean. Legs kicking, arms flailing, and then that precious moment when air rushes into your lungs, giving you the one thing you need the most. Yeah, kissing Ever is just like that.

When his teeth lightly tug on my bottom lip, he owns me. I swear, my shirt almost flies off of its own accord.

Of course, I keep my cool despite his lovely lips … sort of. His tongue slides gently against mine, and I inch closer to him. He pulls away to taste my upper lip, and I grip his shirt with both hands. Maybe my hands slide under the shirt to touch his hot skin, but only an inch or two. When he lets out a long sigh, and his fingers brush the sides of my cheeks just so, I slide my legs between his. I want to pull his ribs loose and burrow deep inside of him, and even then, I’m not sure if it’s close enough.

He slows the kiss, still tasting me, sucking my lips, teasing me with his tongue. When I open my eyes, he’s right there with me, hazy eyes and parted lips. I run a hesitant finger over the freckles on his nose, and he runs his thumb across my swollen mouth. I finger his hair, tugging playfully, and he kisses my dimple, poking me with his tongue.

We explore each other slowly, thoroughly, and my thumb runs over his stomach to the thin line of hair trailing below his belly button. He shivers, and I swear the bulge pushing into the back of my thigh isn’t a banana in his pocket. It makes me feel powerful—that I can turn him on that way. This is the first time I can remember wanting that power. Boy’s erections were always a nuisance to me in the past.

He doesn’t expect me to do something with that, does he? Nuh-uh.

Let me be clear, those are not the thoughts running through my mind as I bend my knee and push my thigh more firmly into Ever’s hard-on. Not even close.

His hips raise to my pressure, and he drops his forehead to mine with a long sigh.

“I knew kissing you would be good, Low, but that was … I don’t know what that was,” he says with a chuckle, stealing another kiss.

“We should try it again. You know, figure it out.”

And we do.

Review for Tantalizing Maria by Helen Hardt

This is the fourth novel that I’ve read by Helen Hardt and it will definitely not be the last. Helen Hardt has a way of taking a spicy romance novel to a whole new level by not only making the love scenes steamy but creating a story that you can’t get enough of.
I haven’t had the privillage of reading the other novels in the Temptation saga but that didn’t  take away from this book at all.
In this novel Maria is a senior in high school and dating the quarterback. She is heading to college in the fall with him but can’t shake the feeling that something is missing between them. She likes him well enough but is not really in love.
Jefferson Bay is the black sheep of his family. He feels that he will never measure up to his older brother Wayne who is the apple of his grandfather’s eye so when his grandfather disowns him he makes sets off to make his own way. He runs with the wrong crowd and spends his time fixing his bike and working in a motorcycle garage.
When Jefferson and Maria see each other across the parking lot all bets are off. Sparks fly and it is love at first sight for both of them.  After two passionate days and nights together Jefferson is already making plans for the future with Maria and that is something he has never thought about before with any woman he’s been with. Before he can set about creating that future for them Jefferson’s “friends” talk him into robbing his grandfather to get the inheritance that he was cheated out of when his grandfather disowned him. Things go horribly wrong during the robbery and a man ends up dead and Jefferson is arrested.  Maria has found out she is pregnant and, thinking that Jefferson is going to jail, she seduces his brother Wayne and makes Wayne think the baby is his so that her child can have the Bay name and the future she can’t offer the baby on her own. When Jefferson finds out he gives up fighting and goes to jail for 30 years for a crime he never committed.
Thirty years later Jefferson is released from jail after DNA evidence clears him of the crime and he returns home to claim the ranch his brother left behind when he passed away. To do this he must confront Maria and their past that neither of them has been able to move past. Maria is still in love with Jefferson and Jefferson is still in love with her but will they be able to move past the secrets and betrayal that have tainted their story of true love?
I wanted to have sympathy for Maria in this story but I really saw Jefferson as the victim throughout the novel. I wanted to scream at Maria for immediately turning to Wayne to fix everything instead of fighting for the man she loved and defending him but I can see where she might have thought that wouldn’t work and she wanted to do the best she could for her unborn child. I liked the way things ended however.

I give this book four out of five stars.

Review for Addicted by Alex Lucian

If you love Pretty Woman then this book is for you. Pretty woman is one of my favorite movies and I love Richard Gere but Elias will put him to shame. He can rock a tux one minute then turn right around and be a rough neck the next which makes him even sexier.
Elias is grieving his sister’s sudden death at the hands of a drunk driver years after it has happened. He has lost his faith in everything and refuses to get close to someone because he can’t stand another loss like that. He is a freelance photo journalist and his job takes him all over the world so he is never in one place very long. He collaborated on a book so he finds himself in his home city of New York for a month doing promotions for the book. Being in on place for a month is making him restless so he does the only thing that makes him feel better when he is restless. He hires an escort for the night. He has always thought this is the best option for companionship since the women he meets are “professionals” and won’t expect anything from him in the morning other than a paycheck.
Ruby is a highly sought after escort. She has found that this is the only job that can provide her with the kind of money that a girl with no family in New York can use to pay down her massive student loan debt that is still piling up as she is working on her second master’s degree. She also needed something to make her feel like she is still in control of her life after spending eighteen months being verbally abused by her exboyfriend Nicolas. She has vowed she will never let a man have that much control over her again.
When Elias and Ruby meet the chemistry is instant both in and out of the bedroom and Elias quickly realizes that one night with Ruby will not be enough. He asks Ruby to be at his “beck and call” for the month he will be in New York. Ruby agrees and Ellias is more than willing to pay the fifteen grand to have her.
What seems like a simple business arrangement quickly turns into more than that as the two get closer and closer to each other. Suddenly what seems like a “job” to Ruby in the bedroom with Elias is feeling more and more like two people in love instead of a client and an escort.
Will Elias and Ruby be able to keep this a business relationship or will they let it turn into something more? Will Elias finally come to grips with his past and be able to create a future for himself and Ruby? Will Ruby be able to trust a man again after her horrible past? Find out in this steamy, unconventional romance.
I couldn’t put this book down! The sex scenes are so steamy but they are made better by the undeniable chemistry between the two characters. I highly recommend this book and will definitely be reading the other installments in this series.

I give this book 5 stars.

Review for Trusting Trey by Katie Mettner

Merry Christmas! Okay, too soon? Maybe, but not for the release of Katie Mettner's new Christmas book, Trusting Trey. If you've read her Sugar Series you'll know the couple in this book. Trey and Allison Helton are friends with Sugar, and Trey is Sugar's 'legman'. They share some good times and poignant moments throughout the Sugar Series, but Trusting Trey is all about them. You'll meet them in the present, then the past, and eventually, the future.

Past…

Trey Helton moved to Duluth to work as a prosthetist for the local hospital. Leaving behind a personal tragedy, he knew Duluth would be the place he could make a life and start to heal.

Allison Drakos was a college senior ready to graduate from the University of Minnesota Duluth. Going to school and working part-time filled her days, but Allison still found time to enjoy her last year with her sorority sisters, until the unthinkable happened.

Present…

Christmas Eve is a special day for Trey and Allison Helton. Not only is it the day they fell in love with each other, but also the day, six years ago, that they married. Their Christmas Eve routine has stayed the same for the last twelve years, but this year will be different.

Future…

Will next Christmas Eve give Trey and Allison a new reason to celebrate a life full of possibilities?

This novel is part of the Sugar Series but I can testify that you can truly read this as a standalone novel because I have not had the pleasure of reading any of the other books in the Sugar Series. I can assure you however I will be reading more in this series in the future because the novels are so well written, as all of Katie’s books are, and the characters are so interesting. In this novel Allison Drakos is a college student in her hometown of Duluth. She is a senior studying to be a librarian because she loves all types of books. I immediately identified with her in that I love to read as well and could spend all day in a library or a book store and be perfectly happy. As long as there is an endless supply of coffee of course. Allison doesn’t really date in college because she feels that the college boys are not that much more mature than they were in high school so she sticks to her studies. One afternoon while she is visiting the library she works at to work on her book blog she meets a handsome new doctor in town named Trey Helton. They immediately hit it off as she recommends some books for him to check out and they go to dinner. After dinner they make plans to see each other again as soon as possible. Fate takes a turn for the worse as, after Trey drops Allison off at her dorm, she is abducted by a man in a mask and ultimately taken back to a frat house as part of their hazing ritual. She is not sexually assaulted but she is forced to undergo humiliating torture before they finally let her go. She is taken back to her dorm and thinks it is all over until she is hit by a car! Feeling like she is surely going to die she does the only thing she can think of and that is to call Trey. Although they have only been on one date she knows in her heart he is the only man she needs at the moment. Trey comes to her rescue but when they arrive at the hospital it is clear that Allison is very lucky to be alive and, with the injuries to her back, she may never walk again. Because Allison’s parents live in a house with more than one story it would be difficult for her to live with them after she is released from the hospital so she accepts Trey’s offer to live with him. The two grow closer and closer by living together and Trey helping Allison adjust to her new life. Will Allison learn to trust that Trey loves her no matter if she is in a wheelchair or not? Will she be able to accept that she is still worthy of love even if her life has taken a different turn than she expected? Will Trey be able to convince Allison that his love is true and he wants to spend the rest of his life with her? Will they ever really know what happened that night of the wreck? Find out in this heartwarming story of trust, finding faith and true love. I read this book in one sitting it was that good. I couldn’t put it down. I really believe in soul mates and destiny since I feel that my husband and I are soul mates but even if you don’t you will after reading this book. This story will make you believe in love at first sight and true love like no other. I give this book 5 stars! This is a must read.
