Review for The Pawn by Steven James

In this novel Special Agent Patrick Bowers is called to North Carolina to help track down a serial killer. Patrick is a geographical profiler who specializes in tracking down serial killers based on the location of their crimes. Patrick is still grieving over his wife’s death that occurred less than a year ago and it trying to adjust to being a parent to her 17 year old daughter. Trying to keep his head in the game is difficult to begin with but it is proving more difficult with this case since the killer always seems to be one step ahead of Patrick. He soon discovers that there could be more than one killer at work in this case when things don’t match up like they should. What follows is a story of not only two intelligent criminals but a government cover up decades in the making and a story of learning to love again.
Patrick must get his head in the game long enough to catch not one but two killers but will he be able to do that and find a way to find closure over his wife’s death and build a family with his step daughter.
This story is a little hard to follow at times as the writer seems to jump from one story to another but it does come together nicely in the end.

I give this book 3 stars.
